Andy brings not only a rich professional history but also a strong work ethic, practical know-how, and a down-to-earth personality. Read on to learn more about Andy’s journey, the skills he brings to the table, and why he’s a valuable part of our growing team.
From Textile Trade to Print Production: A Career Built on Graft
Andy’s journey into the world of print started in an unexpected place – the textile industry. After the closure of the business he worked at with his dad, Andy found himself exploring new paths. That’s when he took a chance with Nottingham Print Finishers – a decision that kickstarted a long and varied career in print and production.
“Started as a basic worker and progressed to working the jogger, forklift, guillotine, folder – proper hands-on, and that was back in ’85,” Andy recalls. “Since then, been all over really.”
His hands-on learning style and no-nonsense attitude have shaped a career spanning decades. Andy isn’t just experienced – he’s versatile, having worked in industries ranging from demolition and textiles to engineering. That adaptability is now helping him thrive in Eight Days print and direct mail production environment.
Embracing Variety and Team Spirit at Eight Group
So, what drew Andy to Eight Group? It was more than just a job – it was the opportunity to be part of something structured, forward-thinking, and team-driven.
“Eight Group is focused and structured from the top down, and feels like it’s got a real direction,” Andy says. “That’s what made me want to join.”
From day one, Andy recognised the camaraderie and professionalism of the production team. He’s the type of person who thrives in dynamic settings where no two days are the same, and where everyone chips in to make the operation run smoothly.
“The lads here, everyone’s sound – a proper team, all pulling the same way. You come in and it’s a decent atmosphere, you can see things happening, see it all coming together.”
His enthusiasm for collaboration is clear, and he’s passionate about using his skills to support and strengthen the team – values that align closely with Eight Group’s culture of quality and continuous improvement.
Skills, Strengths, and a Can-Do Mindset
With nearly four decades of print experience under his belt, Andy brings a wealth of practical knowledge. But it’s his attitude that truly sets him apart.
“I will try anything, learn anything, will apply my logic and knowledge, will own my stuff and always be honest, and will ask questions. Real team player.”
Whether it’s solving a technical issue on the production floor or mentoring a new team member, Andy approaches every task with patience and logic.
“If something is not working right, the first thing I do is take a step back… Bit of patience, bit of logic – goes a long way.”
He’s also embracing new elements of the role – particularly the mailing production processes which were new to him before joining Eight Group.
“I didn’t know much about the mailing side of things before… It’s a different kettle of fish but I’ve enjoyed learning how it all fits together.”
His curiosity and eagerness to learn mirror our own values – always pushing forward, always improving.
Life Outside of Work: A Quick Q&A with Andy
We know that what happens off the clock is just as important as the work we do day-to-day. Our team members bring a wide range of interests, hobbies and life experiences to the table – and Andy is no exception. From DIY projects to football, here’s a glimpse into what keeps him busy outside of the production floor.
Q&A with Andy:
- Do you have any hobbies or creative outlets outside of work?
“ “DIY’s a big one for me – always got some job on the go, whether it’s for the house or helping my daughter out. I like a game of golf now and then too. Got a dog, Jude – she’s a German Shepherd so I take her out every day – it’s a good headspace.”
- What’s one item you can’t live without during your workday?
““It may seem a bit practical but a pen. Always need one of them… and Alan keys or tools in general, can’t go far without a set of those. And my glasses, I’d be lost without them!”
- If you could swap jobs with someone for a day, who would it be and why?
“Easy – football manager at Liverpool FC. Just for a day, like. I’d love to see how it all works behind the scenes – the planning, the decisions, getting the team sorted. As long as they give 100%, that’s all I’d ask.”
- What’s your go-to productivity hack or daily habit?
“If something is not working right, the first thing I do is take a step back. Don’t go rushing in, messing or tinkering with all the settings – you’ve got to slow it down and watch what the machine is doing. A lot of times, it’s something simple that’s easy to miss. Bit of patience, bit of logic – goes a long way.”
- If you could have dinner with any historical figure or celebrity, who would it be and why?
“Bill Shankly – Liverpool manager back in the 70s. Just to sit and listen to how he saw the game, how he talked about the team and their opponents. I reckon he’d have loads of wisdom to share.
Or John Lennon – always wanted to get inside his head, see how he came up with some of those songs like ‘Imagine’ or ‘Get Back’. I’ve been to his old house, Aunt Mimi’s, and McCartney’s as well – it feels like stepping into a time machine.“
Whether it’s spending time with family, working on a project at home, or simply taking a step back to think things through, Andy brings the same thoughtful, team-focused mindset to everything he does. It’s this mix of practical skill and personal integrity that makes him such a valued member of the Eight Group team.

Looking Ahead
As Andy continues to settle into his role at Eight Group, his goal is simple – keep learning, keep contributing, and make a positive impact every day.
“If that makes a difference to someone’s day or improves a job even better, that’s what it’s all about.”
With his decades of print production experience, deep sense of teamwork, and practical mindset. Andy is already making a difference. He’s the kind of team member who doesn’t just get the job done – he raises the standard.
